VW California Lease Deals
The Volkswagen California is a factory-built campervan, with a fold-out bed, kitchen and elevating roof. It is not an everyday work van, but it can make sense for the right business. You can lease a California from £332 a month ex VAT (24-month term, 5,000 miles a year, 12 monthly payments up front). It is part of our van leasing range.
What is the California?
The California is built on the same platform as the Multivan, then fitted out as a camper. Our current range lists the California Beach, a versatile model that sleeps several people and can be used as an everyday vehicle between trips.
How can a business use a campervan?
It is a niche choice, but some businesses find a real use for one:
- Mobile and pop-up businesses that need a base on the road, such as coffee, food or retail pop-ups, subject to fitting out and any licensing.
- Outdoor, adventure and travel businesses, including guiding, filming and photography.
- Hospitality and events, for example, as a feature vehicle or for staff on location.
- Owner-managed firms where the vehicle is part of the brand.
If you only want a campervan for holidays, ask yourself whether a business lease is the right route, and speak to your accountant.
Diesel or petrol hybrid?
We list a diesel California and a petrol hybrid. Diesel is the lower-priced of the two in our range. Check the specification of each before you choose.
VAT and company tax
Campervans are treated differently from panel vans for VAT and tax. Whether you can reclaim VAT, and how the vehicle is taxed if used privately, depends on how it is classified and used. Please check with HMRC or your accountant before you commit. We cannot give tax advice.
Why lease rather than buy?
- Fixed monthly cost. A California is a significant purchase, so spreading the cost helps cash flow.
- No resale risk. You hand the vehicle back at the end.
- Warranty. A new vehicle normally carries the manufacturer's warranty for much of the term.
- Mileage. Be realistic about your annual mileage, because excess mileage is charged.
