Volkswagen T-Cross Lease Deals

Why lease the Volkswagen T-Cross

The Volkswagen T-Cross is a compact SUV. It sits higher than a typical small hatchback, has a practical boot and a rear bench that slides, and is small enough for town driving and tight car parks. For a business it is a sensible choice when you want something easy to drive and not too large, for staff cars, client visits or a company car for an employee.

Contract hire suits the T-Cross because you pay to use the car for a fixed period rather than paying for the whole vehicle. You agree a term and a mileage, pay a regular rental, and hand the car back at the end.

What it costs and what is included

Prices for a T-Cross on business contract hire start from £217.57 a month. What you pay depends on the version, the length of the contract, your annual mileage and the size of the initial rental. Prices change with funder rates and stock, so treat any figure as a starting point and not a final quote.

A typical business contract hire agreement includes:

  • Use of the car for the agreed term, usually between two and four years
  • An agreed annual mileage, with a charge per mile if you go over
  • Vehicle excise duty (road tax) for the contract period, depending on the funder
  • An initial rental, paid up front, which is a multiple of the monthly rental

Things that are usually extra:

  • Insurance
  • Fuel
  • Servicing and maintenance, unless you add a maintenance package
  • Charges for damage beyond fair wear and tear when the car goes back
  • Charges for early termination

Which version suits you

The T-Cross has been sold in several trim levels, and the exact range and engine options change over time, so check what is currently available when you enquire. As a general guide:

  • Entry trims suit businesses that want a low-cost, straightforward car for local journeys. They usually cover the essentials, such as air conditioning and a touchscreen.
  • Mid-range trims add comfort and appearance features such as alloy wheels, extra driver aids and upgraded infotainment. They suit company cars that clients and colleagues will see.
  • Sportier trims add styling touches and larger wheels. They suit drivers who want a more distinctive look.

On engines, the T-Cross has typically used small turbocharged petrol engines, with a manual gearbox or an automatic. If most of your driving is stop-start in town, an automatic is worth considering. If you cover longer distances, check the fuel economy and the mileage you will need before choosing the engine and trim.

Choose your mileage carefully. Setting it too low risks excess mileage charges, while setting it too high means paying for miles you do not use.

Contract hire v buying

Contract hire means you never own the car. Rentals are fixed, you return the car at the end, and the funder carries the risk of what it is worth at that point. You do not have to sell it, but you do have to keep to the mileage and condition terms.

Buying, whether with cash or a loan, means the car is yours. You can drive as many miles as you like and modify it, but you take on the risk of depreciation, along with the cost of selling it when you have finished with it.

Contract hire tends to suit businesses that:

  • Want predictable monthly costs
  • Prefer to replace vehicles regularly
  • Do not want to tie up capital in a car

Buying may suit you better if you plan to keep the car for many years, drive very high mileages, or want to own the asset.

For limited companies, sole traders and partnerships there are tax and VAT points to consider, and these differ between cars and vans and depending on how the car is used. Speak to your accountant before choosing.

Questions people ask

Can I lease a T-Cross as a sole trader or limited company?

Business contract hire is available to limited companies, sole traders and partnerships. Each application is subject to status and the funder's checks, so we cannot promise acceptance.

What happens if I go over my agreed mileage?

You pay an excess mileage charge for each extra mile, as set out in your contract. If your needs change during the term, talk to us or the funder early, as some agreements allow adjustments.

Does the monthly rental include servicing and insurance?

Not usually. Insurance and fuel are normally your responsibility, and maintenance is an optional extra with some contracts. Check exactly what is included in your quote.

What happens at the end of the contract?

You return the car to the funder, who inspects it. You may be charged for damage beyond fair wear and tear or for excess mileage. You can then take out a new contract on the same or a different car.
